NBA Pre-Season 2017
Giannis Antetokounmpo, 6' 11" All-Star guard-forward for the Milwaukee Bucks is working on finalizing a sneaker deal after being on a deal with Nike since entering the league in 2013.
Now starting on his team as an All-Star with very high career expectations, he now has a choice between 3 major sneaker companies that will likely be his brand for the long-haul. Choosing between Nike, Adidas, and Li-ning, Antetokounmpo is being offered a signature shoe no matter which route he takes. So far, it seems that Nike is coming out on top, as they have a new NBA deal, he is constantly decked out in head-to-toe Nike gear, and has previously been signed with the sports giant for the past almost 5 years. Nike can also match any offer sheet that either brand presents him with. Despite the competition, Adidas is not being phased, sending the Greek Freak literal truck loads of Adidas sneakers and apparel. As of right now, it seems that Li-Ning is almost completely out of the question and Giannis is expected to sign with either of the 2 flagships. Kyrie Trade Finalized9/8/2017 In my last post, I touched on some of the difficulties with the proposed Thomas-to-Cavs-for-Kyrie trade, and how at the time, the deal was completely in limbo. As of today, the deal is finalized, and both teams have acquired their assets. Kyrie, now a Celtic, hosted a press conference with fellow now-Celtic Gordon Hayward, to discuss some of the shortcomings of his time as a Cavalier, and how he plans to steer clear of these issues and potential problems moving forward in Boston. Celtics fans are ecstatic, and rightfully so.
The Boston crew, on the other hand, also attended a press conference where they flexed their news Cavs threads and discussed their plans and excitement to see how their career unfolds in Cleveland. "I'm excited to play with the best basketball player in the world", former-Celtic Isaiah Thomas on playing with LeBron James. While I personally am an anti-fan of the Celtics and Cavaliers, my least two favorite teams in the league in fact, and I cannot stand Isaiah Thomas nor LeBron James, I am very excited to watch this transaction unfold and witness the effects that take place on the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, the players themselves, and the entire rest of the NBA. Celtics in the 2019 Finals? I think it is a possibility. Photo credits to NBA on TNT. The Kyrie Irving/Isaiah Thomas Trade8/28/2017 In a strange and twisted turn of events, the NBA world has had the opportunity to briefly experience a world with superstar point guard Kyrie Irving on the Boston Celtics, and bundled Celtics vets Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and Ante Zizic. While the trade sounded like fun, arguably more for one particular side than the other, the entire deal may soon be irrelevant; however, as the Cavaliers are expected to back out of the thought-to-be-completed trade if the Celtics do not offer more assets than originally agreed upon. Upon further inspection of the primary pickup for the Cavaliers, it was decided that Thomas' previously-sustained hip injury would pose too much of a threat to the point guard's future play. To supplement this liability, the Cavs front office came to the conclusion that a 5th asset, a 4th player, would make up for the possible injuring of a future player. Caused by this, has been a swirling of rumors over the past several days and hours. Who the Cavs will ask for, how the Celtics will respond, and if the trade will go through at all are among the most relevant questions. Until the trade is confirmed complete, the NBA community will be anxiously awaiting, just as they did when NBA Commissioner David Stern vetoed a Chris Paul-to-Lakers trade back in December of 2011.
